Las Vegas International Convention
by Howard Jackson

I was quite impressed with the International Convention this year. It was great to see our club recognized around the world for all the great things we do. It was also impressive to see our Kiwanis One Day Project and club highlighted at the opening session on the giant screens around the convention center in front of thousands of Kiwanians. I personally got a lot of positive feedback especially from Kiwanians through out the CNH District including our Governor Roy Talley and Governor Elect Tom Millham and Pete Horton. Our club had a lot to be proud about at the convention. I hope others of you who were at convention were able to experience similar feedback. I think our message about the importance of Kiwanis One Day was really expressed well along with the meaning and the purpose behind this special international project.

It is interesting to note that Jay Leno saw the video and was told about the Aktion Club involvement. There were three Aktion Club members at the convention who worked on the project. The Aktion Club members were invited back stage to meet Jay and have their photo taken with him. Cameron St. Clair was able to arrange the meet. They also got front row seating to see Jay's performance. Pretty impressive for Aktion Club members attending their first International Convention. They bumped some district Governors according to Cameron to get the front row seats.  I was very impressed with all the folks who were interviewed for the video, however, the end comment in the video by Brian Sturgeon, the past president of the Charis Aktion Club and a Kiwanis One Day participant for the past nine years blew me away. I admit I am a bit bias in the matter. I hope you enjoy the film and comments by our entire Kiwanis family as much as I did. I needed to see the film several times to absorb the full impact of video.

The video is now up on the Kiwanis International website. If you go to www.kiwanis.org/oneday and scroll down to the second photo in the article and click on “video” underneath the photo you can see the KI video of our members and SLP groups hard at work. Please enjoy and share the video especially with the SLP groups who were so integral to the success of the project and video.
